KBR speeds idea generation on project sites with collaboration
tools from Facilitate.com
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) – 5/6/2004
-- Kellogg, Brown & Root (KBR), the engineering
procurement and construction company headquartered
in Houston Texas, has adopted Facilitate.com 8.0 to
provide web-based decision-making tools for their management
and construction project teams dispersed throughout
the globe.
KBR needed a way for project teams located at dispersed
sites to collaborate with staff back at the office. “Facilitate.com
8.0 give us an easy way to capture ideas and feedback
as well as the capability to support off-site teams
for whom traveling back to HQ is time and cost prohibitive”,
explained Gene Castorina, Senior Information Technology
manager.
As a proof of this concept, KBR used Facilitate.com
8.0 to support a critical “lessons learned” exercise
with one of its major clients. The Quality Manager
brought together project managers, engineers and clients
in a meeting room with construction personnel linked
in over a secure intranet from the project site. With
everyone brainstorming at once the team built and
prioritized a list of what worked, what didn’t
work and ‘where do we go from here’ .
The computer-based work was interspersed with verbal
discussion over an audio connection.
In less than
two hours the group met their objective of understanding
and documenting the lessons learned from this complex
refinery construction project. Noted Gene Castorina, “We’ve
all experienced meetings with the flip chart paper
on the wall, post-it notes and voting dots, where
a lot of content gets lost in translation. With Facilitate.com
8.0, we accomplished our task in a fraction of the
time, with more substance, less posturing and full
documentation.”
KBR selected Facilitate.com in part because of the
software’s intuitive interface. “We redesigned
our product for the web in 1996 because we recognized
that the Internet would become the preferred collaboration
platform,” explained Mike McCall, head of development
at Facilitate.com. “The advantage of pure Internet
design is that it presents an interface that most people
today are familiar with. This means that people can
use the tools effectively for the first time within
minutes.”
KBR also intends to use Facilitate.com 8.0 for corporate
and IT strategic planning. The software will be used for a variety of
online meetings and surveys with several hundred participants collaborating
over secure Internet or intranet connections.
